Our Products Contain…HEALING FOOD:

ORGANIC RAW COCONUT OIL – Coconut oil contains Lauric acid and Monomaurin–both are antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal. Coconut oil also contains powerful antioxidants. It can improve the health and appearance of skin by improving the moisture and lipid content thus adding to its moisturizing and softening qualities.

ORGANIC CENTRAL COAST OLIVE OIL – Olive oil is a beneficial moisturizer that contains three major antioxidants: vitamin E, polyphenols, and phytosterols. These naturally occurring elements may help protect the skin from premature skin aging, restore skin smoothness, and protect against ultraviolet light. Hydroxytyrosol, a rather rare compound found in olive oil, also prevents free radical damage to the skin.

CENTRAL COAST AVOCADO OIL & BUTTER – Avocado butter has a natural resistance against ultraviolet rays. It is rich in vitamins A, B, G & E, which makes it a great moisturizer for dry and damaged skin.

WILD, ORGANIC, FAIR TRADE COCOA BUTTER – This organic, fair trade and RICH cocoa butter is used to heal and moisturize skin that is exposed to the harsh elements of sun and wind. It is high in fatty acids which penetrate the skin for deep hydration.

CALIFORNIA BEESWAX – Beeswax is very nourishing for the skin and also acts as a product solidifier.

IRON OXIDE COLORANTS – Iron Oxides are naturally occurring mineral deposits used as pigments in our colored lip tingle. Cosmetic grade Iron Oxides are purified and do not pose a risk to human health. Sometimes a little boost of iron is exactly what dry, cracked lips need.

EARTH-BASED COLORANTS – We use the highest quality Cosmetic-Grade clays formulated for use in personal care products. These help us achieve the deep earthy hues of our colored lip tingle without using Titanium Dioxide. Our Cosmetic Grade clays are specially refined and are not known to cause a risk to human health.

100% PURE ESSENTIAL OILS – We use a combination of 100% therapeutic grade essential oils. Essential oils are used as natural preservatives, natural antibacterial agents, natural antimicrobial agents plus unlimited other aromatherapy benefits.

ORGANIC TAPIOCA STARCH – Tapioca starch is a food grade, white powder used to thicken our deodorant.

SODIUM BICARBONATE – Odor absorption and pH balancing.

NON-NATURAL health & Beauty products CONTAIN:

Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP)

DBP is used in nail products and some hair sprays. DBP is absorbed through the skin. It can enhance the capacity of other chemicals to cause genetic mutations, although it has not been shown to be a mutagen itself. In laboratory experiments, it has been shown to cause developmental defects, changes in the testes and prostate, and reduced sperm counts. Known as toxic to aquatic organisms.

Butylated hydroxyanisole and butylated hydroxytoluene are found in moisturizers, makeup & popularly used as a preservative in lipstick. It can cause cancer and interfere with hormone/endocrine function. It is harmful to fish and other wildlife.

Heavily used in hair dyes and colours identified as “C.I.” followed by five digits in other products. Carcinogen; has the potential to cause cancer and can be contaminated with heavy metals toxic to the brain.

Formaldehyde-Releasing Preservatives

Look for DMDM HYDANTOIN, DIAZOLIDINYL UREA, IMIDAZOLIDINYL UREA, METHENAMINE, or QUARTERNIUM-15. Widely used in hair products, nail products, moisturizers, & cosmetics as a preservative, etc. Formaldehyde can be absorbed through the skin and causes cancer.

Synthetic fragrances and Parfum

Widely used even in some products marketed as “unscented” (often the last ingredient). Mixture of chemicals that can trigger allergies and asthma. Some linked to cancer and neurotoxicity. Some harmful to fish and other wildlife.

In hair products, lip balm/lipstick, skin care products. Petroleum products (mineral oil jelly/petroleum jelly) can be contaminated with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), which are cancer-causing impurities.

Aluminum based compounds are the active ingredient in antiperspirants. They block the sweat glands to keep sweat from getting to the skin’s surface. Some research has suggested that these aluminum compounds may be absorbed by the skin and cause changes in estrogen receptors of breast cells. Because estrogen can promote the growth of both cancer and non-cancer breast cells, some scientists have suggested that using the aluminum-based compounds in antiperspirants may be a risk factor for the development of breast cancer.

Parabens in their many forms (methylparaben, propylparaben, ethylparaben, or butylparaben) are a class of artificial preservatives widely used in cosmetics and personal care products that are being investigated for their possible role in breast cancer. Parabens mimic the activity of estrogen in the body. Since estrogen promotes the growth of breast cancer cells and a woman is eight times more likely to develop breast cancer in the part of the breast closest to the underarm, scientists are studying the connection.

Propylene glycol–a humectant which means it keeps substances from drying out, and it was originally developed as an anti-freeze, but is now included in some deodorants and antiperspirants. It is a neurotoxin known to cause contact dermatitis, kidney damage, and liver damage. In propylene glycol’s Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), published by the National Institute for Occupational Health and Safety, workers are urged to avoid skin contact with the toxic chemical as it may cause eye and skin irritation, gastrointestinal irritation and discomfort, nausea, headache, vomiting, and central nervous depression.

FD&C colors are artificial/synthetic colors approved by the FDA for food, drug and cosmetics. Some are made from coal tar derivatives and have known to be carcinogenic; they also often cause allergic skin reactions.

TEA and DEA (triethanolamine and diethanolamine) adjust the pH, and used with many fatty acids to convert acid to salt (stearate), which then becomes the base for a cleanser. They both could be toxic if absorbed into the body over a long period of time where DEA can cause liver and kidney damage and TEA can cause allergic reactions. These chemicals are already restricted in Europe due to known carcinogenic (cancer-causing) effects. Harmful to fish and wildlife in wastewater.

Titanium dioxide is a widely used colorant in lipstick, including many “natural” advertised lip balms. It is the subject of new controversy. New data by the International Agency for Research on Cancer suggests that it is a carcinogen causing cellular malfunction, and ultimately, cancer. Especially dangerous in powder form or aerosolized sunscreens.

Triclosan is and artificial antimicrobial chemical used to kill bacteria on the skin and other surfaces. Triclosan is a skin irritant and may cause contact dermatitis. Recent studies suggest this chemical may disrupt thyroid function and other critical hormone systems. The American Medical Association recommends that triclosan and other “antibacterial” products not be used in the home, as they may encourage bacterial resistance to antibiotics that can allow resistant strains to flourish.
